CUNY Chancellor Matt Goldstein and the CUNY Board of Trustees, with the invaluable support of Hunter College President Jennifer Raab, have entrusted David Steiner with the job of creating and directing a new Institute for education policy. Its mission is to build a preeminent, non-aligned policy center in New York City for the development, dissemination, and discussion of research that will really matter to practitioners of PK-20 education.
The topic of this invitation-only launch event (May 9, 2013) was An Agenda for Public Education: Challenges and Possibilities. The evening included a panel discussion with nationally renowned education policymakers and practitioners, including Common Core architect David Coleman, veteran turnaround superintendent Paul Vallas, American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education president Sharon Robinson, New York State Commissioner of Education John King, and David Steiner.
